About Getting Help

Help for yourself or a loved one

The Older Persons Act no. 13 of 2006 states that the Department of Social Development must keep a register of persons convicted of elder abuse.  Any person whose name appears in this register may not own,  manage or be employed by a residential facility or service for older persons.
Many older persons who are in abusive situations are not able to bring their plight to the attention of those in a position to help them. Taking the time to make a phone call on behalf of an older person may only take a few minutes but could make an enormous difference to their quality of life.

Elder abuse is an offence.
